Over the last few years there has been an explosion of business systems on the market to help you with the day to day running of your venture. Most of these tools are made by independent software companies and, while to do a great job, they don’t always play nicely with each other.
The main problem this causes for most companies is duplicating data from one system to another and the amount of man hours it takes to do these menial tasks. Whether it be your customer relationship manager not talking to your email marketing system or latest sales from your website not going into your accounting system Zapier may be able to help.
Zapier was founded in 2011. It is web based service that allows end users to integrate the web applications they use via API’s. An API (Application Programming Interface) is a means to access and change the data in a system without using the traditional user interface of the application. This is normally accessed (securely) by developers via a programming language.
Most modern web based business systems have an API and traditionally if you wanted two systems to communicate with each other you would have to employ a developer who could write some code that connected the API’s. This is where Zapier now comes in. You can connect the API’s with the data you need through Zapiers user interface.
When you have seen the potential for Zapier to solve the problems your business may currently have, it opens doors to automations that are possible. The image below taken from their website illustrates a simple example of this.
So as businesses use more and more independent software applications I see solutions like Zapier becoming more and more important in linking them together.
If you need any help or advise, setting up a more complex Zapier integration or if the systems you use don’t work with zapier, get in touch and we’ll see if we can help.
